SDI opens clothing closet and food pantry for S&T students

Student Diversity Initiatives (SDI) is excited to announce that the clothing closet and the student food and supply pantry are now open at the Diversity House, 605 W. 11th Street.

Today’s college students face serious financial challenges. Many students find it difficult to support themselves while also paying for college. Hunger is a real problem for far too many of today’s students. One issue they are faced with is food insecurity – not having reliable access to sufficient, nutritious food. “Commuter’s Commodities” is a food and supply pantry to help alleviate the financial burden of obtaining good quality food, small household goods, cleaning supplies and hygiene products. We are committed to assuring that our students have everything they need to succeed in their studies. The pantry is available to all S&T students who may be in need of assistance. Students who are in need of assistance will need to complete a first time user questionnaire available online to schedule an appointment with one of our specialists.

Stocked with quality clothing the “Closets are for Clothes” closet provides free clothing for trans and gender transitioning students allowing them access to gently used or new gender affirming clothing, shoes and accessories. The purpose of this service is to alleviate the often heavy financial burden of transitioning or coming out. While members of the LGBTQIA+ community are given priority access to this resource, all S&T students who have a need for this service may use it accordingly. Students who are interested in using the closet can schedule a private appointment or stop by and take a look.
